Colin Straw
Dip Arch Nottm RIBA
Received his architectural education at Nottingham
University and worked for Eric Lyons on New Ash
Green and other Span projects.
Following qualification Colin worked first in
Derby and then with BWP in Reading on a wide variety
of projects in retail and commercial, housing and
industry. A period with Conran Design followed
in London with projects for international sports
shops, department stores and offices.
BWP then approached him to join as an Associate
to set up their Leeds office which he established
and built up to a busy practice working primarily
in the fields of commercial and industrial projects
and housing schemes.
1989 - date: Partner in the Jackman Straw Partnership,
Cambridge in association with Braithwaite & Jackman
Major projects included new build and alteration
work in a variety of sectors, including education,
printing and publishing, retail, plastic packaging,
college buildings, church refurbishment and conservation
work. Most significantly the practice was appointed
as Architects to the first hostel for disabled
students in Cambridge, instigated by Professor
Margaret Spufford and with great support from Professor
Steven Hawking and the Bishop of Ely among others.
1993 - date: Partner in Braithwaite & Jackman
In 1993 the practice merged with Braithwaite & Jackman
- Architects and Quantity Surveyors. Colin Straw
joined Brian Jackman and Lou Tinker as a Partner,
and returned to Leeds. Skills were combined to
extend the existing client base in the fields of
retail, industry, commerce and sports/ leisure
to include education projects, conservation work
and design for the disabled. Colin was instrumental
in introducing CAD facilities, fully networked
through the practice, from 1989 onwards.
Current work includes a broad range of projects
and services, both new-build and refurbishments,
for clients in the Leeds area and throughout the
UK. Work of a Contract value in excess of ten million
pounds has been completed in each of the last five
years.
Paula Jackman
MA Cantab Dip Arch RIBA
Graduated from the University of Cambridge School
of Architecture with a First Class Honours degree
and a Distinction in the Diploma course.
Experience in the areas of education, commerce,
conservation and housing was gained through employment
with Robert Hutson Architects in Essex and Freeland
Rees Roberts in Cambridge.
Presentation drawings were selected for the Royal
Academy Summer Exhibition Architecture room in
1984.
