The Shaftesbury Society
Bridget's Hostel

Renovation of buildings on the Old Addenbrookes Hospital site to form the first hostel for disabled students at the University of Cambridge and Anglia University, to be run by the Shaftesbury Society.

Student rooms are grouped around a courtyard at ground floor level with able-bodied students occupying the upper floors.

A large common room, kitchen and conservatory are used by all.

A purpose built garden, known as ‘Charlies’ Garden’ has been formed in a secluded area at the side of the building with a plaque by David Kindersley.

The building was formally opened by HRH Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.
