The Leeds Library is among
the oldest private lending libraries in the UK
and is housed in a Grade II* Listed Building
in central Leeds. A series of projects have been
undertaken as well as quinquennial survey reports
on the fabric of the building.
The Library was
built in 1808, with the New Room being added
in 1881. The original glazed roof to the New
Room required substantial repair work and re-glazing
to be carried out. In addition to this, it was
decided that a programme of repair and redecoration
be undertaken to the ornate internal plasterwork
to the ceilings. It was important that this transformation
be sympathetic to the period.
Following this,
repairs and re-decoration of the front façade
on Commercial Street have been completed.
